SCAMP Camp

 VIRTUAL SCAMP Camp 2021

Given the times we are living through here is an opportunity to build a SCAMP at “your own pace” with master SCAMP builder and instructor Howard Rice with you in your shop via scheduled live sessions and archived podcasts. You will have access to the full SCAMP Camp archived podcasts whenever you need to review a build step or technique. For the duration of the SCAMP Camp build (10 days) scheduled live one on one and group meetings will be held on line beginning with the opening orientation and meet your fellow builders session.

Before the build begins each builder will receive a suggested hand tool list, materials list, build sequence document and preparation suggestions. The daily build video modules will begin with an instructional video covering the building and truing of the jig or strong back, which comes with your kit. Then it’s off we go together through the finish of a true and accurate hull as in all SCAMP Camps. You then will have the requisite skills needed to continue to finish your boat.

Exciting News For All SCAMP Builders:
There will be an ongoing series of “FINISHING SCAMP” video modules available through the SCAMP Channel enabling you to take your boat from the post SCAMP Camp stage all the way to rigging and setting sail. All aspects of the satisfying finish from decking, cabin build, finishing and installing the centerboard ad rudder, mast and spar builds, cockpit finish, painting to hardware mounting and setting sail will be available at a nominal charge per module. This will enable you to pick and choose, which modules you need or perhaps you may elect to purchase the entire series. A comprehensive boat building course from start to finish.

The Savings Will Be Notable:
The virtual or on line 2020 SCAMP Camp is your opportunity to build a very capable small boat at a remarkable savings with a master SCAMP builder and instructor at your side through every step. The cost savings are numerous when compared to the traditional SCAMP Camp model of builders traveling to the Camp venue and incurring travel, lodging, meal, materials fee and new trailer costs. You can build at the speed that suits you pacing your time and costs however you wish.

Yep It’s Still As Much A Boat Build As A Very Cool Social Event!:
The times we live in prevent face to face team building. Over the years SCAMP Camp has become known as an amazing experience and not just a boat build. There is a magic that happens between participants and many life time friendships have resulted. I certainly wish we were back in the days of team building, dinners together and off there charts laughter and fun. One of the great aspects of the SCAMP phenomenon is the very real camaraderie between owners, the Small Craft Advisor SCAMP Forum, the annual Red Lantern Rally and the fact that the SCAMP class is growing with sail numbers soon to reach 600! Virtual SCAMP Camp will link you with your fellow builders through face to face video meetings, exchanged emails and phone numbers (if desired) and the larger SCAMP community.
